Description[]
The CB1300SF traces its origins to the CB1000SF, produced with a massive petrol tank in 1992 as part of Honda's Project Big One. The thick, powerful-looking 1300SF, unveiled in 1998, was given a larger 1,300-cc engine and was the first street bike to get double ProLink rear suspension. In 2003, Honda released an even more evolved "big naked" machine, the 45-lb. lighter CB1300 Super Four. The engine was still a water-cooled, four-stroke, dual-overhead-came 4-valve inline-4- cylinder design, but the valve adjustment mechanism was improved for better performance, and the purely decorative cylinder fins were removed. Replacing the conventional carburettor with a PGM fuel injection system improved the machine's driveability and environmental performance. The engine itself was also nearly 20 lbs. lighter. The 4-2-1 exhaust and valve silencer silencer enhanced the machine's sportiness.
Conventional dual suspension replaced the double Pro Link suspension in the rear. The riding position was more compact to be more agreeable to women riders.
The 2005 model is essentially unchanged on the outside, but inside, changes to ignition timing and fuel-injection mapping improve low- to mid-range performance. The redesigned side covers make it easier to stand at red lights. Also added to the lineup was a model equipped with an antilock braking system.
With its light feel, powerful torque, and exceptional ease of handling, the CB1300 Super Four became even more accessible with these improvements. In the low range, the gentler engine power delivery makes for easier riding. The greatly refined design provides delicate throttle control and smooth clutch operation, for improved balance during U-turns and other low-speed manoeuvres. Suspension action during mid-to high-speed cornering is more predictable, for overall handling that is sure to please expert riders.
