Description[]

When it came out in 1979—exactly ten years after the debut of the CB750-Four—the CB750F became an instant smash hit that ushered in a new era in motorcycles. Buyers were drawn hypnotically by its sporty, aerodynamic profile in which the fuel tank, side covers, and rear cowl were all integrated into a single wave.

The basic layout is the same as the simultaneously developed CB900F, but the CB750F has an air-cooled, dual-overhead-cam four-cylinder 748-cc engine with a bore size and stroke specially designed for 750 cc machines. Honda used know-how from RCB—which had just won the European Endurance Championship for the 3rd consecutive year—to make the 750F the only four-valve-per-cylinder motorcycle in its class. The two-stage cam chain assures precise valve timing at high r.p.m.

However the reason for this popularity wasn't the just engine performance. Enthusiasts were also drawn to its sporty features, including forged duralumin separate handlebars, Comstar rims, and twin oversized gauges evocative of a jet fighter's cockpit. With perfectly positioned footpegs, the slightly forward-leaning riding position is the ultimate in cool—perfect for sporty cruising. Start the engine and twist the throttle, and hear the sharpest revving you've ever heard. The sound is so smooth it seems more like an electric motor than an engine. This could only be the handiwork of Honda, world leader in production four-cylinder bikes.

This bike excites the minute it starts moving. Opening the throttle just a little unleashes that RCB magic that makes you want to let 'er rip and tear down the highway. Response and punch just before the red zone far exceed anything that the old 750-Four was capable of.

Despite the large wheels-19-inch in the front and 18-inch in the rear—the well-designed frame assures stable cornering at full lean. Even at extreme lean angles, the CB750F can manoeuvre freely, like a wild animal in its element.
