Description[]

Released in 2004, the 1,000-cc CBR1000RR superbike took full advantage of Japan's increase of its motorcycle displacement limit to 1,000 cc the previous year. The CBR1000RR was positioned as a successor to the CBR954RR, and was based on the FireBlade concept bike, first announced in 1992, although the CBR1000RR is more tailored for racing.

Like the 600RR, this machine is built on a chassis inherited from the RC211V MotoGP bike, and includes the Unit Pro-Link rear suspension system, which attaches to the swing arm and contains the upper shock mount. And like the 211V, the CBR1000RR combines massive power with exceptional control. Even more amazing is its surprisingly responsive handling.

With its highly refined power properties, the machine's awesome 172 horsepower is easy to handle. Opening the throttle in first gear won't make the bike pop a wheelie. Instead, the front merely lifts slightly, even around 8,500 r.p.m., where torque peaks. Even after reaching peak power at 11,250 r.p.m. or redlining at 11,650 r.p.m., the bike's response still isn't too abrupt.

The smooth handling lets the rider cruise for long periods without fatigue yet also enjoy zig-zagging leaned far over on winding roads. The rear Unit Pro-Link transmits only enough vibration for the rider to monitor the rear tyre's grip, allowing the rider to easily get into a rhythm on winding roads. Yet despite these outer charms, the CBR1000RR still does the 211V proud when it comes to performance.
