Description[]

When organisers of the World Superbike Championship raised the displacement limit to 1,000cc in 2003, Honda responded by developing the CBR1000RR, released in 2004. Like the CBR600RR, this bike was built on a chassis developed with know-how gleaned from the RC211V MotoGP. The 1000RR built for the Japanese market has an ultrashort-stroke engine generating 94 hp at 11,250 r.p.m., but the full-power European-spec versions have engine tunings that boost power to 172 hp at the same r.p.m.

This race-ready CBR1000RR[1] is a European-spec model upgraded with a special racing kit.

Although the displacement is the same as the production bike, changes such as a racing exhaust system and cams, a new engine control unit, and a close-gear-ratio transmission boost power even further, to 187 hp at 11,250 r.p.m.

The front and rear suspension units look unchanged on the outside, but modifications on the inside have optimised the spring rates and damping properties for racing. Brembo racing brake calipers are installed in the front and rear for improved stopping power. The bike is also lighter thanks to an aluminium gas tank, magnesium rims, carbon parts, a race-spec rear frame, and other upgrades. All of these modifications have enhanced the already-considerable sportiness of the CBR1000RR[1] inherited from the RC211V.
