In-game description[]

"The Type R signaled a turning point in the Civic's history, especially this fourth-generation model that was the first to get a turbocharged engine. This 4-cylinder produced more than 295.9 HP and 289.3 ft-lb of torque, putting the car on par with high-end sports cars. This Civic was so fast that it set a new course record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife for FF production cars."
―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Brand Central

The Civic Type R is a sports model that was developed from the family car Honda Civic and, since its debut in 1997, has continued to excite sports driving enthusiasts from around the world.

Its history had come to a close in 2012, but came back in 2015 when the 4th generation Civic Type R was born.

The base model was the 9th generation European 5 door model. On the exterior there is a large front spoiler, rear wing, side skirts and rear diffuser. These were not just for looks but as a result of repeated wind tunnel and road testing, in order to minimise air resistance and improve downforce. Even the front and rear over fenders are for fitting the wider tyres properly.

The power unit is a dedicated 2.0 litre direct injection, turbocharged inline 4 with VTEC that produces 305 BHP / 40.8 kgfm, providing power levels unprecedented in the Type R series to-date. This enables a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 5.7 seconds, with a top speed of 270 km/h, making this the highest performance Civic in its history. The suspension utilises a dual axis strut in the front that reduces torque steer by roughly 50% in comparison to the standard Civic, with an adaptive damper system that can be adjusted.

This 4th generation Type R took on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, which resulted in a lap time of 7 minutes, 50.63 seconds, successfully overwriting the record for commercial front-wheel drives on this track.
