"The top-of-the-line fifth-generation Civic balances speed with comfort."
―In-game catch text for the car, from GT7's car collection

The Honda Civic SiR・II (EG) '93 is a 3-door hatchback produced by Honda. It appears in the mainline Gran Turismo games except for Gran Turismo Sport. In Gran Turismo 7, it was included as part of Update 1.48.

In-game description[]

"Compact, lightweight, and low to the ground, with an aggressive yet attractive body style, the fifth generation Civic, introduced in 1991, is the quintessential boy-racer car. Many consider this model to be one of the best handling FF (front engine/front-wheel drive) cars on the planet. The chassis feature a double-wishbone suspension and steering system that made the car a monster through corners. The top-of-the-line SiR-II came with a naturally-aspirated 1.6-liter DOHC VTEC engine. It was, and remains, the pride of Japan. This Civic is still popular today, thanks to predecessors like this 1993 model.[2]"

Car Index (GT7)[]

When the fifth-generation Civic came around in September 1991, Honda was regarded as one of the foremost front-wheel-drive makers in the world. The new Civic, dubbed the "Sport Civic", took all the values of the previous model and made them slightly better. Three different body styles were offered: a 3-door hatchback, the newly christened "Ferio" 4-door sedan, and a 5-door hatchback, known as the "shuttle". Underneath their hoods were a variety of new engines, most of them featuring VTEC technology: the base models came with a 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter inline-4; mid-level models had either an easy-to-service 1.5-liter SOHC VTEC inline-4 or a fuel-efficient 1.5-liter with VTEC-E; and the premier Civic model was powered by none other than the mighty 1.6-liter DOHC inline-4 that produced 168 HP, 10 HP more than any previous generation SiR motor.

To handle the extra power, Honda engineers stiffened up the car's double wishbone suspension system. The SiR was a pure driver's car, with nothing more than the essentials. The SiR-II, the second and more popular model, added comfort amenities such as air conditioning, power windows and a leather-covered steering wheel. The SiR-II also got a 4-speed automatic transmission. One drawback of the automatic was that the engine's peak output was cut to 153 HP to improve low and medium-range torque. Still, the addition of the automatic transmission definitely broadened the Civic SiR's appeal to an entirely new group of buyers.

Café Conversations (GT7)[]

Stella[]

I know this type of Civic very well! Why, it's a so-called 'Sports Civic' from the 1990s — a 5th-generation 'EG' Civic to be precise. The 'Sports' moniker alone should tell you that it's fast, but its engine design and sound are second to none. You often see these cars tuned in all manner of ways. What do I like best about tuning a Sports Civic you ask? The engine swaps, of course! For example, a Honda K-engine with a large displacement will give you sound, speed, and power. But my favorite would have to be the Type R B-engine. It might not offer as much power as the K-engine does, but its roar is simply unforgettable!

Trivia[]

  • The version appearing in GT1 has an issue where the rear spoiler has a white stripe. This was fixed in GT2, where it was remodeled.
    • Some demo builds of GT2 contained the old model. Additionally, these contain the Tahitian Green Pearl color that was dropped in the final release.
  • It also appears in Gran Turismo Concept as an unplayable CPU car.
  • In GT7, it is the first update car to have an engine swap option available immediately, rather than on the succeeding update.
  • In GT7's Livery Editor, the light cover setting affects the front blinkers, much like the Garage RCR Civic.
  • Until GT6, it had the standard steel wheels with plastic wheel covers. However in GT7, it has the optional aluminum wheels.
    • The car shown at the Honda Collection Hall museum at Twin Ring Motegi does feature the optional aluminum wheels; it is possible that the model added in GT7 is based on the car displayed there. Coincidentally, the first color that was made available in UCD was Captiva Blue Pearl, the car's color on display there.

Notes[]

  1. Called Captivate Blue Pearl until GT6
  2. Incorrectly referred to as 1991 model in-game
  3. Winnable in NTSC-J version only
