Description[]

Marketed as a stylish two-seater, the Forza was initially available in two types: X and Z. The X is a typical automatic, but the Z was a slightly different animal, the first in its class ever equipped with six-speed (now seven-speed) electronically controlled transmission—the Honda "S Matic." An automatic transmission model was also offered.

The unit system integrating the engine, drive system, swing arm, and muffler is mounted to the backbone frame. The water-cooled 4-stroke overhead-cam single-cylinder 249-cc engine is paired with an electronic control unit specially developed for 250-cc bikes and featuring PGM electronic fuel injection, which helped designers keep the bike light and compact. The whole package rolls on a 13-inch rim in the front and a 12-inch rim in the rear. The hydraulic front-rear interconnected brakes are standard, with anti-lock brakes brakes optional.

The Forza Z is also the world's first scooter or motorcycle with Honda's Smart Card system, for increased convenience and theft protection. The Smart Card contains an electronic verification feature and allows owners to start the engine and perform other operations from a distance. Other strong points include a glare-resistant, easy-to-read instrument panel and a 30-inch backless seat, for both better comfort and easy standing at stops.

As soon as it begins moving, the Z delivers the kind of rapid acceleration possible only with a 250cc bike. The brakes require just the right touch and deliver reliable stopping power, even in full-braking stops. What really sets this bike apart is its cornering performance: when turning into a turn, leaning, and finally accelerating out of the exit, handing is light and neutral. In other words, this bike's footwork is solid not just on city streets, but on motorways and winding roads, too.

On long uphill or downhill roads, the S-Matic transmission lets the rider set the r.p.m.—thus overcoming the traditional power handicap of 250cc bikes. Practical and fun and comfortable to ride, the Forza Z is one of the best scooters out there.
