In-game description[]
"The 4th generation Prelude turned into a true sportscar, producing 197 BHP."
As the Japanese public's tastes in automobiles were shifting from sporty cars to more recreational mounts, the fourth generation Prelude bucked the trend in September 1991, offering consumers with a no-nonsense to front-wheel drive performance. The car's design was characterized by a wide, aggressive stance--although it was shorter than the outgoing model by 3.1 inches, its overall width increased by 2.7 inches. Also, the past model's retractable headlights were replaced by fixed twin reflector types.
The interior was designed like a cockpit of a fighter jet, with the dashboard wrapping around the front-seat occupants. Although the Prelude was classified as a 2+2, it felt more like a pure two-seater.
Under its hood sat a 2.2-liter DOHC inline-4. In the base Si, the engine produced a respectable 158 HP, but the upgrade model came armed with VTEC, resulting in 197 HP, more than most any other Front engine/Front drive (FF) car of its day. Taking care of the car's cornering was Honda's double wishbone suspension system, which not only provided stability during turns, but also offered a supple ride quality. The Prelude also featured 4-wheel steering (4WS), which evolved into the Hyper-4WS in this fourth-generation car. It exhibited better overall on-center feel that its predecessor. The new Prelude was indeed at home on either road or track, contesting in a number of races across Japan, including the famous N1 endurance race.
