The Jaguar XJR15 GT Race Car is a race car produced by Jaguar. It only appears in Gran Turismo 2.

In-game description[]

The following description is a translation of the car's description from GT2's NTSC-J version:

In 1991, when the XJ220 was still awaiting completion, a model called the XJR15 suddenly appeared. When it first appeared, everyone thought it was a production version of the XJ220, but it was completely different. This model was developed under the leadership of the TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing Team), a racing division.

This model is based on the XJR9, which won the Le Mans in 1988. Therefore, the power unit mounted in the mid-engine is also based on the XJR9, with a 6.0-liter V-12 OHC displacement.

The maximum output of this unit is 450 ps at 6250 rpm, and the maximum torque is 58.1 kgm at 4500 rpm. Although it has been detuned, the unit is exactly the same as Jaguar's racing unit. The transmission used in this car is a Hewland 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission, just like that used in racing cars.

Naturally, there is no synchronization, and a twin-published carbon clutch is used.

Double wishbones are used for both front and rear suspension. Brakes are ventilated discs both front and rear. The car weighs a very light 1050 kg, a figure that is lighter than the current Roadster.

The 6-liter V12 powerplant is installed in this car, and its performance is in a class of its own. The interior is bare carbon, but the seats are in Connolly leather, which is typical of Jaguar.

Trivia[]

  • This car was developed by Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR), who later used the design as a basis for the Nissan R390 GT1.
  • As with some other cars, early demos of Gran Turismo 2 contain files for an unfinished and uncoloured silver version of this car, before the paint colour was applied by the development team.
