In-game Description[]
This description is taken from the PAL version of Gran Turismo 2:
The Jaguar XJ saloon was voted "The Most Beautiful Car in the World" in 1995, it comes as no surprise then that Jaguar did little to the looks when the XJ8 arrived two years later. Despite the fact that 30 per cent of the body has been changed, the familiar twinned head light face remains, as do the downward lines of the boot. However underneath the fluted bonnet, there's a big change. Instead of the old straight-six engines, the Jag now boasts V8 power. The 290BHP 4.0-litre AJ-V8 powertrain, first seen in the XK8 Coupe is available but on top of that, a new short stroke 3.2-litre V8 adds further to the range. The 3.2 develops 240BHP at 6,350rpm and knocks out 233 lb/ft of torque at 4,350rpm. Designed to be compact and lightweight, the engine also employs the latest advanced combustion system and a drive-by-wire throttle. The package is potent enough to deliver a 0-60mph time of 8.1 seconds and a 140mph top speed - impressive figures for such a large car. The engine itself is mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox while ride and handling are subject to Jaguar's usual attention to detail. A new spring to beam, twin wishbone front suspension, XK8 braking system, and retuned double wishbone rear suspension feature, along with electronically controlled, variable-ratio power steering. The chassis is further enhanced by the XJ Sport's 8Jx16 alloy wheels, shod with 225/55ZR16 tyres. The braking system features large diameter, vented discs all round with the same ABS system as fitted to the XK8. The electronic automatic stability control function reduces wheelspin in adverse road conditions by decreasing engine power. Traction control is a further feature which activates the anti-lock system. In turn, this brakes a spinning wheel, allowing the driver to retain control under hard acceleration.
