In-game description

This description is taken from the PAL version of Gran Turismo 2:

Derived from the considerably more expensive Aston Martin DB7, the Jaguar XK8 was launched to critical acclaim in 1996. It was everything a new Jaguar should be too, combining graceful looks with power and refinement. Much of the praise directed at the car was for its new V8 engine. Developing 290 BHP from its V8 32 valve configuration, the engine is potent enough to deliver a torque figure of 393 lb/ft at a lowly 4,250 rpm. Performance is equally impressive with the dash from 0-60 mph taking only 6.4 seconds before the car reaches an electronically governed 155 mph top speed. Fast though the XK8 is, next to its high performance stablemate, the XKR, it seems positively pedestrian. The same V8 engine gets the supercharger from the Jaguar XJR saloon, boosting power to 370 BHP at 6,150 rpm. Although top speed remains the same at 155 mph, the 0-60 mph sprint takes only 5.2 seconds, making the XKR Jaguar's fastest mainstream production car ever. Both the XK8 and the XKR get Jaguar's five speed automatic gearbox as standard, the box comes with an intelligent gearshift that adapts its changes according to the driver's demands. To cope with the increase in power, the XKR adds Jaguar's Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) to its double wishbone all round set up. CATS adjusts the car's dampers and anti roll bar according to the speed and driving conditions. High speed results in a firmer set up, while the ride height increases and the suspension softens at low speed. The braking system is just as advanced, with vacuum assisted four wheel disc brakes ventilated at the front and rear. ABS is also standard, as are 18 inch alloy wheels. Externally the XKR can be distinguished from the XK8 by its mesh grille, bonnet louvres and 18 inch alloy wheels.
