Description[]

In Japan in the 1980s, when the boom in racer replicas was in full swing, the mid-sized market segment was awash in replica bikes built with state-of-the-art technology forged on the racing circuit. In 1985, Kawasaki released the GPZ400R, its first 400cc bike powered by a liquid-cooled engine. But this was no mere racer replica—it was built as a road sports model. The 400R's maximum power is 59 hp at 12,000 r.p.m., and the 16-inch rims and long wheelbase make for an ease of handling suitable for touring—a major factor in the bike's popularity.

This racing-modified GPZ400R incorporates many features from the bikes that raced in the then hugely popular Isle of Man Tourist Trophy race and the All-Japan F3 championship. The engine has pistons, conrods, and a crank from an F3 kit, and the intake and exhaust ports are polished for greater airflow efficiency. The F3-grade close-ratio transmission efficiently transfers the engine's muscular power to the ground.

The fork has F3 inner parts for three-stage adjustability, and the racing-spec rear suspension is designed for superior damping properties. The stock carburettor bodies have upgraded inner parts matched to the tuned engine. The muffler has modern styling and racing specs.
