Description[]

Now popular the world over, supersport racing is open to 600cc street bikes, but the racing-spec modifications made to the bikes often sacrifice accessibility for the ordinary rider. That's why Kawasaki, upon releasing the made-for-racing 599cc ZX-6RR in 2002, also made the Ninja ZX-6R, a 636cc machine designed for optimum street performance.

The ZX-6R underwent a comprehensive redesign the following season and again in 2005. The 2005 model was the first equipped with an under-seat muffler, further setting it apart from the 6RR. With larger intake and exhaust valves, and a twin-injector fuel injection system in addition to its predecessor's twin-valve system, the engine cranks out unbelievably smooth, fat low- and midrange torque for a 600cc class machine. Not only that, but power stays massive at high r.p.m. Instead of flattening out beyond 13,500 r.p.m. as previous models did, this ZX-6R's power stays strong. The Ram Air induction system feeds the engine pressurised air, boosting power from 130 hp to 136 hp.

With a superior aerodynamic design that reduces the drag coefficient to less than 0.27, even at top speed the ZX-6R doesn't feel like it's being pulled back by the airflow. The bike's aerodynamics move the airflow separation point farther forward, reducing turbulence around the rider and moving the point of airflow convergence toward the back of the bike.

Frame dimensions are optimised for greater stiffness and to allow the engine to be moved closer to the front wheel. The result is solid response without sacrificing handling.

With its 37cc boost in displacement and the massive power to show for it, the Ninja ZX-6R is a monster machine that goes beyond typical 600cc boundaries in both raw power and overall performance.
