Description[]
In response to the demand in Europe for a new, different kind of naked bike with a supersport engine as an alternative to the ZRX and Zephyr, Kawasaki built the Z1000, released in 2003. The engine was based on the ZX-9R and fitted with a special fuel injection system. The frame was made of large-diameter, thin-walled tubing. The Z1000 was designed for excellent throttle response and handling in the sport riding speed range of 50 to 100 mph.
On the outside, this racing-modified Z1000's upgrades may be iimited to a titanium 4-into-2- into-1 exhaust system, but the engine was tweaked for power and performance to match its edgy styling.
The pistons and crank were thoroughly balanced, the camshaft swapped out for a racing one, and the intake and exhaust ports polished. The engine control unit was also reprogrammed to suit the engine and exhaust system changes. With high-performance inner parts in the fork and a new shock absorber unit, this machine has the handling performance to negotiate successive sharp turns like a true superbike.
