The Lamborghini Miura P400 Bertone Prototype '67 is a concept car produced by Lamborghini. It appears in Gran Turismo 5, Gran Turismo 6, Gran Turismo Sport, (as part of Update 1.19, released on May 30, 2018) and Gran Turismo 7.

The car that appears in the game is chassis number 0706, that won the 2008 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Gran Turismo Trophy.

In-game description[]

"Lamborghini's first supercar that brought fame to the company."

The Automobili Lamborghini was born in 1963. After creating the 350GT and 400GT, they announced the TP400 in its bare chassis form at the Torino Motor Show of 1965. In the Geneva Motor Show of the following year they announced the Miura P400, donning the beautiful body designed by Marcello Gandini who was then the chief designer of Bertone.

The Miura took on a midship layout, mounting a 3929 cc V12 engine behind the rear bulkhead. This was a landmark model for Lamborghini, their first supercar producing 345 HP and 271.2 ft-lb. It immediately drove the budding name of Lamborghini directly into the limelight. And there were many incredible people involved in its development. The chassis was designed by Gian Paolo Dallara, who would later establish Dallara Automobili, now one of the most famous racing constructors in the world. The genius engineer Paolo Stanzani who would later develop the Countach was also involved in its development.

It is said that there were 3 prototypes built of the Miura P400 from its announcement at the Geneva show until the start of full production, and the initial prototype apparently did not have the characteristic louver above the rear cowling. However these prototypes were modified to production specs later, and delivered to the market as a standard Miura P400. The Miura later progressed into the S and SV models with engine power upgrades, and production continued to 1973. There are also a few SVJ models in existence, which were created in the image of the legendary Jota.

Legend Cars[]

The legendary Miura supercar was actually Lamborghini's first midship design. This chassis 0706 - the second of the first five cars built - is the oldest Miura in existence. Even for a brand as storied as Lamborghini, the Miura is especially legendary. Its chassis - designed by Gian Paolo Dallara - was displayed without a body at the 1965 Turin Salon. Those who saw it thought it was a sure sign that Lamborghini was going to start racing! The reaction was enough to persuade company founder Ferruccio Lamborghini to green light its development, and the first prototype Miura was completed the following year, in 1966. This chassis 0706 has miraculously survived the years without any restoration work. It was entered in the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2008, where it won the Gran Turismo Trophy.

Designers have a lot to say about the Miura... And opinion is divided on the identity of its chief architect. Some attribute its excellent design to the hand of Bertone's Giorgetto Giugiaro...[1] While others contend it was work of his successor, Marcello Gandini. The overall look of the car is quite advanced for its time, much like the Ford GT40, in fact. However, what stands out to me is the detail of the upward-facing headlights. This can be found on another one of Giugiaro's[2] works, the Fiat 850 Spider. Does this suggest that the Miura's true father is, in fact, Giugiaro?[3] I for one think so. Regardless, we should all be happy that... The first-ever mid-engine Lamborghini turned out to be such a marvellous car.

Trivia[]

  • The full name the car used in the PlayStation 3-era games, Lamborghini Miura P400 Bertone Prototype CN0706 '67 (Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Polyphony Digital Trophy '08), is also the longest in the series, at 116 characters. The shortened full name in GT Sport is also still long, at 53 characters.
  • A duplicated entry for the car exists in GT5 with the internal name of "muira_p400_proto_67" (note the typo); the version used in the game is "miura_p400_proto_67".[4] The duplicate entry would later be removed in GT6.
  • In GT Sport's Livery Editor, the rear wing layer is used for the car's engine cover/vents.
