In-game description[]

"The Italian-made Lancia Delta is one of the world's most legendary rally cars. And little wonder—the Group A rally car won the World Rally Championship an incredible six times! The production model which served as its base is still highly sought after by collectors today. This HF Integrale Evoluzione is one of the last variants produced. Not only does it boast 4WD and wider treads, but its power has been further increased to over 197.2 BHP."
―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Used Car Dealership

The original Lancia Delta was a hatchback designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. However, when the Group B class was dropped from the WRC, Lancia chose the Delta as the base for its new Group A model. In 1987, Lancia gave the Delta a high-performance turbo engine and all wheel drive before entering it into the WRC battlefield. To say the car was successful would be an understatement as Lancia won an unprecedented six straight WRC championships. During that run, the Delta went through a number of changes as it adapted to the changes in the WRC.

In 1991, Lancia was hard-pressed by its rival, Toyota, which was gaining on the Delta in the WRC. So Lancia responded with the Ultimate Delta, which it unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show that year: the HF Integrale Evoluzione.

The Evoluzione featured a larger front grille and large air slots in the hood to improve ventilation and cooling in the engine bay. As a result, power was increased from 197 HP to 207 HP. Also the new Delta had a wider track (by 2.3 inches) and flared fenders that increased overall width to 69.6 inches. The torque split of the car's all-wheel-drive system was biased toward rear-wheel-drive, allowing the car to behave more like a traditional race car. This Evoluzione did well when it made its debut in 1992, but Lancia pulled out of the WRC that year, and the Delta retired quietly from racing.

Café Conversations (GT7)[]

Hideo Kodama[]

Back when Giugiaro was designing production cars, one car on which he really left his mark was this Lancia Delta. Reflecting the refinement of Lancia, it makes a great impression. During the 1970s, Lancia dominated rally races with the world-renowned Stratos. The company likely intended for the Delta to be the spiritual successor of the Stratos. Compared to the rally-bred Stratos, the Delta improved upon the two-box hatchback-sedan theme. The thick 16-inch 205 tyres and wide, blister fenders lent the car the prowess of a wild animal. It just goes to show how a tame hatchback can transform into a fierce rally-fighting machine. It's a design approach I'm quite a fan of, really.
