- This article is about the real rally car that first appeared in Gran Turismo 4. For the fictional car featured in Gran Turismo 2's Arcade Mode, see Lancia STRATOS '73.
The Lancia STRATOS Rally Car '77 is a rally car produced by Lancia. It appears in Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo PSP, Gran Turismo 5, and Gran Turismo 6.
It appears to be the #1 driven by Sandro Munari, who would later become the Driver's Champion of the 1977 WRC season by winning the Cup for Drivers.
In-game description[]
"The legendary machine whose name is boldly engraved in rally history."
When the Stratos, a prototype car designed by the famous Giuseppe "Nuccio" Bertone, was displayed at the 1970 Turin Motor Show, it caught the eye of Cesare Fiorio, manager of the Lancia team that was then contending for the World Rally Championship (aka the WRC although it was known as the "WCR" at the time).
The Stratos sported the Ferrari Dino's 2.4-liter V-6 mounted amidships, and featured FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) body panels that opened wide in the front and back to allow for easier maintenance of the engine and suspension. The Stratos obtained Group 4 homologation and first appeared in the WRC venue in San Remo, where the Munari Mannucci driving team drove it to victory. A Stratos, sporting the Marlboro racing colors, placed 3rd overall at the RAC Rally, the final race of the WRC. Lancia went on to win the WRC title that year.
The Lancia[1] factory Stratos wore Alitalia colors starting in 1975, and spoilers were added to the roof and rear end. This Stratos took the WRC by storm, winning the title for the second year in a row. Afterward, its victory streak continued with a stunning 1-2-3 finish at the 1976 Monte Carlo Rally, the first race of the WRC series. It also dominated the European Rally Championship. The Stratos would race until the 1978 season, before it was replaced by the Fiat 131 Abarth.

Trivia[]
- It was originally planned to be available in GT3, but was removed before release. It is still present in the game files, but only accessible with cheat devices.
- Note that if it is added to the garage this way, it cannot be purchased using the memory card trade feature; this also affects the regular version and the Porsche 911 GT3 (996) '01.
- Additionally, in the PAL version, the body is removed from the game data.

- Until GT PSP, it had Alitalia logos. However in GT5 and GT6, said logos have been removed and replaced by Polyphony Digital logos, likely due to licensing. Alitalia went bankrupt in 2008, but despite having new owners, the original livery was not applied for GT6. Alitalia later shut down in October 2021.
