In-game description[]
This description is taken from the PAL version of Gran Turismo 2:
With characterful styling, a range of engines tuned to sound as good as they go plus a specification that can be tailored to match the oddest of tastes, the Lancia Ypsilon reads like it must be the latest Italian supercar to wow motor show crowds. Surprisingly enough then, it is in fact a small but very distinctive runabout. The two Ypsilons designed purely with fun in mind are the daftly named Blue Elephant and Red Elephant. The Blue Elephant is the entry level model aimed at young trendies while the Red Elephant is more closely focused on being a laugh to drive, rather than purely a laugh to look at. Ypsilons share their underpinnings with the Fiat Punto, so the simple chassis utilises independent suspension all round with MacPherson struts plus wishbones at the front and trailing arms at the rear. Extra cornering stability is lent by a pair of anti-roll bars. The Red Elephant adds to this a lower ride height, stiffer springs and revalved shock absorbers. Both models benefit from power steering, with anti-lock brakes optional on the Blue Elephant and a standard fit on the Red. The Red Elephant also has 15-inch wheels, an inch up on the Blue's. Performance is nippy at best, the Blue Elephant offering a choice of 1.1-litre or 1.2-litre engines. The 1.1 gives 54 BHP at 5,500 rpm while the 1.2 puts out 58 BHP at 5,500 rpm. The Red Elephant meanwhile is distinctly perkier with a 1.2-litre 16-valver delivering 86 BHP at a buzzy 7,000 rpm. Both have five-speed gearboxes, the Red's with lower ratios to give an acceleration time of 0-62 mph in 10.9 seconds and 109 mph flat out. The Ypsilon has been raising smirks since its 1994 introduction. The only complaint often heard is that because it's restricted to left-hand drive European markets, the little Lancia isn't available for a wider audience to enjoy.
