"This highly refined Lexus RC F coupé competed in the 2016 VLN as a GT3 race car."
―In-game catch text for the car, from GT7's car collection

The Lexus RC F GT3 prototype '16 is a race car produced by Lexus. It appears in Gran Turismo Sport and Gran Turismo 7.

The car appears to be the #54, entered by Emil Frey Racing (reflected on the name it had in GT Sport, Lexus RC F GT3 prototype (Emil Frey Racing) '16) and driven by Lorenz Frey and Stéphane Ortelli, who participated in the 2016 Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenpokal Nürburgring (VLN) season. As the car was not yet fully homologated by the FIA, the car participated in VLN series as an SPX class car.

In-game description[]

"The Lexus RC F GT3 is a race car specifically developed to wage war in the popular FIA GT3 series. While the car was expected to be competitive, it was still behind the others in development... or so people thought. This race car made a name for itself in Race 9 of the 2016 Nurburgring Endurance Series, surprising everyone. Despite competing as a prototype, it finished first in its class. The victory was also the first of its kind of a Japanese automobile in the series. Needless to say, this model has become a major piece in the history of Toyota racing."
―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Brand Central

Car Index[]

In the line up of the RC luxury coupé cars revealed by Lexus in 2014, there was a high performance model; the RC F. Based on this car, the RC F GT3 was developed as a racing machine to compete in the popular GT3 category races being held around the world.

The introduction of the RC F GT3 had already been in the works at the development stages of the road going commercial model, and its development proceeded in parallel with that of the road car. The V8 powering the standard RC F was converted to a dry-sump lubrification system and had its displacement increased to 5.4 L. This is combined with a 6 speed sequential gearbox, for a maximum output of 493 BHP. Because the body houses large diameter slick tyres, the car features over fenders. Meanwhile weight has been reduced wherever possible, with the vehicle weight kept down to 1,300 kg.

Starting from the 2017 season, the RC F GT3 was entered, and performing very well, in the American IMSA series (GTD category), the European International GT Open series, and the Japanese Super GT (GT300 class) races. In the International GT race, it won the 2nd race at Silverstone for its first victory, and in Japan it won for the first time in the second round of the Super GT, held at the Fuji Speedway.

The RC F GT3 Prototype, represented here, is a car that was built for evaluating performance, just before the RC F GT3 acquired homologation. This car won the VLN (Nürburgring Endurance series) round 9 held on October 8, 2016. At the time of that race entry the car was still unpainted, with its carbon surfaces fully exposed, but the livery on the car here is of Emil Frey Racing; a top Swiss team who competes in the International GT Open.
