In-game description[]

This description is taken from the PAL version of Gran Turismo 2:

The Lexus SC400 (or Soarer as it was known in some markets) saw Toyota at last produce a truly accomplished grand tourer to rival that of European manufacturers like Jaguar and Mercedes. Although it never really took off in Japan the car was instantly greeted with enthusiasm in the huge American market. The Americans fell in love with the sleek, swooping lines of the SC, but also with the luxury and power that the bodywork hinted at. At the heart of the SC's performance was the choice of a four litre V8 double overhead cam engine or a three litre in line six cylinder unit. In true prestige car style, power was transmitted to the rear wheels via an electronically-controlled five speed automatic gearbox. Needless to say it was the V8 that was ticked as an option on most cars. It was hardly surprising either, because with around 290 BHP accompanied by a healthy dose of torque, the SC400 could hit 60 mph from rest in 6.5 seconds and go on to top over 150 mph. Double wishbone suspension all round complete with front and rear anti roll bars meant the SC400 could round a bend with little fuss too - a fact that's even more impressive when you remember it was nearly five metres in length. In rigorous testing the SC even managed to generate nearly eight tenths G of lateral adhesion. As well as a decent suspension set up the SC400 came with plenty of other technological assistance. There was variable rate, power assisted steering as well disc brakes all round, complete with a computer controlled anti-lock system. The SC400 also boasted 16x7 inch alloy wheels shod with 225/55 VR16 tyres. Although the SC400 was never officially introduced in Europe it proved popular with those who wanted a distinct and stylish coupe and many found their way onto European roads - especially in Britain.
