The Lotus Esprit GT1 is a race car produced by Lotus. It only appears in Gran Turismo 2.

In-game description[]

The following description is a translation of the car's description from GT2's NTSC-J version:

In 1995, the Lotus Esprit entered the BPR Series, an FIA-approved international GT race series, with a high-performance model based on the Esprit 300, a 4-cylinder unit, to demonstrate its potential to the fullest extent. In 1996, the company finally entered a GT1 and a GT2 in the BPR series. In 1996, they finally introduced a model called the GT1.

This was the Lotus Esprit GT1. The greatest feature of the GT1 was that it was finally equipped with a V8 engine. This V8 was a 3.5-liter 32-valve turbo engine made by Lotus, and its maximum output was said to be as high as 520ps or 550ps.

The transmission used was a Hewland 6-speed sequential gearbox, which transmitted the tremendous power to the rear two wheels.

The chassis has the potential to be on par with other GT machines, and the suspension has been significantly strengthened. The braking system was also improved in every aspect, including the use of 14-inch carbon discs.

In addition to the above, the Esprit's greatest weapon is its light weight.

It was even said to weigh around 900 kg, which was just under the GT1 class regulations. After this, it once took second place in a GT race and also won the ballot position in the Nürburgring 4-hour race, but its development was not completed in time and it was not allowed to participate in Le Mans in 1996. The car's potential was almost completely dashed.
