In-game description[]

"Have you heard of MAZDA SPIRIT RACING? It's a new brand born of Mazda's exceptional achievements in motorsports. One car that embodied the full extent of Mazda's racing expertise was the MAZDA SPIRIT RACING ROADSTER 12R. As its name suggested, it was based on the ND Mazda Roadster, although beneath the surface it was something totally different. The engine is a rarity in Japanese soft-tops—featuring hand-assembled heads and pistons. In terms of power, it pushed the boundaries of what a production car could achieve. Its chassis was reinforced, the suspension used height-adjustable Bilstein dampers, and the brakes were supplied by Brembo. Alas, production was limited to just 200 units. A true works-tuned roadster, it was a rare and shining gem."
―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Brand Central

"MAZDA SPIRIT RACING" was an initiative launched by Mazda to cement the company's place in motorsports and to cultivate new talent through racing. Competing in events such as the Super Endurance Series[1] with a large crew made up of Mazda employees, it grew into a formidable presence in the sport.

From this foundation, the team created a car that embodied the skills and knowledge it had gained through years of competition. That car was unveiled as the "MAZDA SPIRIT RACING ROADSTER 12R" in early 2025 at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

As its name suggested, it was based on the ND Mazda Roadster. But beneath the familiar silhouette, it was packed with works-grade components. The centerpiece was its engine, a unit seldom seen In Japanese soft-top models and featured specially designed camshafts, cylinder head, pistons, and exhaust manifold—all hand-assembled to precision. The power output was pushed close to the practical limit, measured against the endurance demands of a true production car.

Its chassis reflected the lessons learned from the Super Endurance Series. Among them was the suspension that used height-adjustable Bilstein dampers, while the brakes were equipped with 4-piston calipers from Brembo. It sported forged Rays wheels, identical to those used on race cars. Other special parts included Recaro seats and a Fujitsubo exhaust system. With production capped at just 200 units, the Roadster 12R stood as perhaps the ultimate works-tuned roadster.

Trivia[]

  • Up to version 1.63, the car's specifications were hidden both in-game and on the website, and no power or weight tuning was available, except for power limiter and ballast.
    • This is because the car's specifications were not finalized at the release of the update; the ability to tune the car (and its specifications being revealed) was made available in version 1.65.[2]
    • A similar precedent is present with BMW M4 Coupé '14 in Gran Turismo 6, which did not have tuning parts until update 1.14.
  • The car's addition to GT7 coincided with the passing of Tom Matano, the original designer of the Eunos Roadster, on September 20, 2025.
