In-game description[]
This description is taken from the PAL version of Gran Turismo 2:
When the last MG was produced by British Leyland back in 1980 there was an outcry from enthusiasts the world over, nevertheless it took Rover another 15 years to come up with a truly new successor to the famous MGB. The result was the MGF of 1995. Despite the handicap of starting out with humble Austin Metro underpinnings, the engineers at Rover managed to come up with a rear wheel drive, mid engined sportscar that met with much acclaim, apart from one thing - there wasn't enough power. That criticism was answered with the arrival of the MGF VVC however. Where the normal car makes do with an unmuscular 118 BHP, the VVC boasts 143 BHP from its in line, four cylinder, variable valve timed engine. Torque is also up to 128 lb/ft at 4,500 rpm and a five speed manual gearbox is standard. Combine the lot and the MGF has enough conviction to spin its wheels to 60 mph from rest in 7.9 seconds before going on to a 126 mph top speed. When it comes to handling Rover have stayed with the Metro's basic suspension set up of interconnected gas spheres and lower wishbones. The MGF's brakes are considerably beefier than those of a Metro however, with vented discs on the front and solid discs on the rear. They are also powerful enough to halt the car from 70 mph in 54 metres. When it comes to wheels, the VVC version of the F gets 6Jx15 alloys with 185/55 tyres on the front and 205/50 tyres on the rear. Overall the MGF met with much acclaim mainly because its mid engined chassis made it easy to drive hard. With the clever and powerful K series it was even better, however the small scale nature of the project meant it would never be sold in the USA - traditionally a strong market for MG.
