The Matterhorn is a mountain of the Alps, straddling the border between Switzerland and Italy. It is a huge pyramidal peak in the Monte Rosa area of the Pennine Alps, whose summit is 4,478 m (14,690 ft) high, making it one of the highest summits in the Alps and Europe. The four steep faces, rising above the surrounding glaciers, face the four compass points and are split by the Hörnli, Furggen, Leone and Zmutt ridges. The mountain overlooks the Swiss town of Zermatt in the canton of Valais to the north-east and the Italian town of Breuil-Cervinia in the Aosta Valley to the south. Theodul Pass, located at the eastern base of the peak, is the lowest passage between its north and south side.

This mountainous complex appears in Gran Turismo 6.

Trivia[]

  • There is an unused variant of the Matterhorn Complex hidden in Gran Turismo 5's game files. It features a layout not seen in any game since this one, signifying that this was actually in development at this time, and was considered for inclusion in GT5. Interestingly, it is a dirt course, while all Matterhorn variations are tarmac circuits. Unfortunately, due to the missing .CRS (collision) file, it cannot be loaded and raced on, even with a cheat device, it will either soft-lock the console in an endless loading screen or freeze, not responding to controller input. However, it is possible to drive around the track in the UK 1609 Build of GT5, although it is severely unfinished.
