Mazda is a Japanese automobile manufacturer that is featured in the Gran Turismo series.
Mazda is well known for mass-producing the Wankel engine successfully. In the 1960's, Mazda was inspired by Felix Wankel and his work at NSU, and formed a business relationship with NSU and developed the Cosmo Sport in 1967. Mazda was also the world's first car manufacturer to turbocharge a Wankel engine, in 1982.
Mazda is also known for re-inventing the small, lightweight, nimble and sporty roadster that was once popular during the 1970s with the MX-5; which held the record of "World's Best Selling Sports Car".
Mazda won the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans with the 787B, the only time a rotary engine would win the event (contrary to popular belief, rotary engines would appear after their 1991 win; Mazda was unable to the use the car in 1992 due to the Group C regulation changes prior to the class being phased out) and was the only time a Japanese manufacturer would secure the overall Le Mans win, until Toyota finally achieved their long awaited win in 2018. Its most popular models are the RX-7, RX-8, the MX-5/Miata/Roadster, the Demio/Mazda2, and the Atenza/Mazda6.
Along with Toyota and Genesis, Mazda is a Gran Turismo World Series sponsor, granting them guaranteed entry in the Manufacturer's Cup. Mazda also organized the Mazda Spirit Racing GT Cup esports championship, though only in Japan.
