In-game description[]
This description is taken from the NTSC version of Gran Turismo 2:
Once essentially Mazda's motorsports division, Mazdaspeed[1] was absorbed into the Mazda organization in 1999. The Demio A-Spec is a tuned car that is based on what is considered Mazdaspeed's[1] most accessible car. The A-Spec tuning kit, unlike the competition-oriented Sports Kit, is intended for street use. The parts that make up this kit are also sold separately, allowing users to customize their car according to their own particular budget. These parts all meet Japanese government safety standards and can be fitted without the need for an automobile modification permit. This Demio's styling is enhanced by its aero parts. The sharp grille and air dam give it a race-ready look. Side skirts smooth the airflow along the car's sides, and a rear deck spoiler increases downforce. The rear skirt and window finish are evocative of a racing car. Also available are a "sport sound" muffler, suspension kit, and a variety of other options that can give this compact station wagon not only sports car styling, but also dramatically enhanced performance as well.

Trivia[]
- The car's eligibility for the Lightweight Sports Battle Stage is not documented in the reference manual that came with the American version of GT1; however the car can participate in the event despite this.
- In GT2, the engine sound is missing a turbocharged version, so after applying any Turbo Kit upgrade the car will make a high-pitched whine instead of an engine sound, sometimes referred to as a 'UFO' sound.
