The Mazda Familia, also sold as the Mazda 323, Mazda Protegé and Mazda Allegro, is a small family car produced by Mazda from 1963 to 2003. Spanning eight generations, it was the predecessor to the Mazda3.
In its native Japan, the vehicle was sold as the Familia, meaning "family" in Latin. For export markets, earlier models used the names "800", "1000", "1200", and "1300". In North America, Mazda GLC replaced the 1200, with newer models bearing the name "323" and "Protegé". In Europe, all Familias were sold as the "323" from 1977 onwards.
