In-game Description[]
This description is taken from the PAL version of Gran Turismo 2:
The Familia, the 9th generation of the traditional Mazda model, and the result of a full model change in June 1998, appeared in the guise of a 5-door estate instead of the 3-door model which had remained the core model up to then. The engines in the models known as the S-Wagon are all in-line 4-cylinder. Three types of engine are provided: they are the normal type 1.5-litre DOHC, the S-VT spec 1.5-litre DOHC equipped with variable valve timing, and the 1.8-litre DOHC mounted in the 4WD R-4. There are two types of transmissions available; a 5-speed MT and 4-speed AT, and two types of drivetrain - FF and 4WD. The S-Wagon (with its full lineup of variations) appealed particularly to young drivers, offering high utility yet low cost - and this was augmented in August 1999[1] with a new sports grade model. The engine in the Sport 20 model is the 2-litre 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve high-octane spec which is used in the Capella sports version among others. In both FF and 4WD variants the maximum power output is 170ps/6,800rpm, with a maximum torque of 18.4kgm at 5,000rpm. In the lighter FF configuration, the weight is just a little over 1,200kg and with these figures we can expect sufficiently high performance characteristics. Although, unfortunately, only the 4-speed AT transmission is provided, the Sport 20 features the "Activematic", an AT with a manual function with built-in sequential mode - a first for Mazda - which allows manual shifting for that "sporty" feeling. More fine tuning has been carried out on the well-loved suspension, to provide an even sportier feel to the ride. The design of the new front parts is shared with the overseas export version of the S-Wagon, and furthermore, all the aero parts fitted have been newly developed.
