In-game description

"The concept supercar with cutting-edge technology and a rotary engine."

The Mazda RX500 is a concept sportscar that was built in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of Toyo Kogyo, Mazda's original company name. It showcased Mazda's rotary engine, the world's first commercially applied rotary engine, which was first utilised on the 1967 Mazda Cosmo Sport.[2]

The unforgettable bullet-shaped form was designed internally with a focus on aerodynamics. In the clay model stage there was a coupé model with a beautiful rear section, and a race version with a rear wing, but as a result of the focus on aerodynamics, this form, which produced a Cd value of 0.31 in wind tunnel testing, was utilised. The upward-opening door was introduced even before the appearance of the Lamborghini Countach.

The engine that is mounted amidship in the steel tube space frame is a 10A rotary engine that was built for the Total 24 Hours of Spa race, producing over 246 BHP. The transmission is a 4-speed manual from the RX87 Luce Rotary Coupe. The top speed was expected to be 249 km/h, and the brake system featured 4-pot calipers and 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes for deceleration from the high speed range. This was cutting-edge for its time, as only a very few racing cars used a setup like this in its day.

The RX500 had a different exterior every time it was shown, so the fans thought there were 3 cars in existence, in green, yellow and silver. However when restoration began in 2008, 30 years later on the last displayed car, 3 layers of paint were[3] discovered on a damaged part of the door, proving that there was only one car in existence, that had been repainted every time it took the stage.
