The Mazda Roadster (also called the Mazda MX-5 in Europe and Mazda MX-5 Miata in the U.S.) is a model of car manufactured by Japanese manufacturer Mazda. Various versions of the Roadster have featured in every mainline version of Gran Turismo. The Roadster is a 2-seater, roadster style sports coupe that has been produced by Mazda from 1989 to the present day and is among the most popular cars ever released, having sold in excess of 900,000 units to date.

Four generations of the Roadster have been produced, the NA in 1989, the NB in 1998, the NC in 2006, and the ND in 2015.

Variants[]

Note that in PS1 and PS2 era games, (Eunos) Roadsters were referred to as MX-5s in PAL versions and MX-5 Miatas in NTSC-U versions. In GTPSP, GT5 and GT6, returning cars from previous games had all three regional variants available in every version.

For clarity, only the Roadster versions are listed below.

Trivia[]

MX-5 S-Special Type I (NA,J) '95 -Stripes

The MX-5 S-Special Type I (NA,J) '95 with hidden stripes in GT6.

  • A number of first-generation MX-5 models (that are badged as MX-5 and Miata, but not those badged as Roadster) feature hidden stripes when repainted in GT Auto in GT6. These regional models, previously only shown in GT4 depending on the game's region before being playable in all versions of the game between GTPSP to GT6, have been a point of criticism and contention regarding the series' car roster, often derided as duplicates.
  • For the first Gran Turismo's Arcade Mode, a separate instance of the first generation Roadster (internally named amian, with unused garage name of EUNOS ROADSTER ARCADE) is used. Otherwise a copy of the regular NA Roadster purchasable from that game's new car dealership, "amian" contains almost every color of the Roadster (except for the prize special colors and the J-Limited/Sunburst Yellow color) for use in the Arcade Mode, although without color names if the car is forcibly added to the player's Simulation Mode garage.[1]
    • It is worth noting that the B-8 license is actually performed with "amian" Roadster, instead of the normally purchasable variant ("aminn").
