In-game Description[]
"McLaren's 3rd generation supercar, offering a new lightweight body."
Following in the footsteps of the McLaren F1 with its ultimate performance, and the SLR McLaren with Mercedes-Benz, the third McLaren supercar was given the name MP4, as if to remind one of its relationship with F1 machines. As with the revolutionary MP4 F1 car that introduced carbon composite bodies to F1 racing back in 1981, the major point of note in this car is the one-piece carbon composite "mono-cell" tub ulitized in its structure.
The weight of the mono-cell alone is just 80 kg and contributes greatly to weight reduction. In the front and rear of the mono-cell is an aluminum frame to which the engine and suspension are assembled.
The midship-mounted engine is a 3.8-liter V8 twin turbo, with a maximum output of 591 HP. The displacement and power specifications may perhaps appear to be surprisingly modest for a McLaren road car. However its performance is nothing short of incredible, as its boasts a top speed of over 198 mph, 0-1,312.3 ft (400m) acceleration of approximately 11 seconds, and a 0-124 mph acceleration of less than 10 seconds, giving it a performance level equal to or greater than the Ferrari 458 Italia.
The brakes ulitize the air brake system also used on the SLR McLaren, that has been further refined. The 7-speed dual clutch system is given the name "Seamless Shift Gearbox," much like F1 machines, and incorporates six preset driving models. The electronically controlled suspension is set up as a 4-wheel double wishbone configuration, and it is notable that the front-rear-left-right dampers are connected hydraulically for ride comfort.
Brand Central (GT7)[]
This here is a McLaren masterpiece! The MP4-12C was McLaren's first road car since the legendary F1, and has all the goods you'd expect of the maker. Its single-piece carbon monocoque was the first of its kind in a commercially available car... And its active suspension system is also a stroke of McLaren genius. But let's not forget its ultra-powerful 3.8L V8 twin-turbo midship engine, which is capable of 591.7 BHP! We had to wait a long time for the successor to the F1, but there's no doubt it was worth it!
Used Cars (GT7)[]
The MP4-12C is one of the most recognisable mid-engine McLaren automobiles... And it's famous for being the first road-going model McLaren produced after the legendary F1. The V8 twin-turbo is housed within a carbon-fibre composite chassis that is both rigid and lightweight. It also boasts McLaren's remarkable 'ProActive Chassis Control' suspension. With exceptional roadholding capabilities that are apparent the moment you take hold of the steering wheel... The blissful experience of driving this car is nothing less than magical.

I've always liked the design of the McLaren MP4.[1] It's bold, aggressive, but not over-the-top. Much like the McLaren 650S, all of the design elements work in harmony, making for a very consistent design. I love the side intakes and the graphics on the rear, including the cool exhaust shape and location.

Trivia[]
- The car's engine is very loosely based on Nissan's VRH35L twin-turbo racing engine that was used in the Nissan R390 GT1 Race Car, as both engines have the same 93 mm bore.
