In-game description[]

This description is taken from the NTSC version of Gran Turismo 2:

The E 55 is a four-door executive sedan that's quicker and faster than many pure sports cars. It continues the Mercedes-Benz/AMG tradition of luxurious, civilized four-door supercars that started with the AMG "Hammer" in the late 1980s, and continued with the 500 E in the early 1990s. Starting with an E-Class chassis, Mercedes-Benz performance partner AMG stiffens the double-wishbone front and five-link rear suspension and adds staggered-size wheels and tires, larger in the rear than in the front. Racing-derived vented, two-piece floating front discs with two-piston floating calipers and vented discs in the rear give the E 55 stopping ability equal to the power of its engine, a 5.5-liter AMG modification of the 5.0-liter V8 found in the SL 500 roadster. Although it has the same single overhead cam, three-valve-per-cylinder design as the stock engine, a forged billet steel stroker crankshaft increases displacement, and high-lift camshafts and intake modifications increase power to 349 BHP at 5,500 rpm. Maximum torque is a healthy 391 lb-ft at 3,000 rpm for strong midrange response. The transmission is a 5-speed adaptive automatic. No bare bones boy-racer, the E 55 has a full complement of luxury features. It's the land-based equivalent of a high-speed executive jet. Why be uncomfortable at 150 mph?
