In-game description[]

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class underwent a full model change at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, becoming the 3rd generation model. In contrast to the tall family hatchback style of its predecessors, it was transformed into a 5 door hatchback with a wide and low sporty form that was better suited to young adults.

It wasn't just looks that made this car sporty. Its rigid body is equivalent to cars above its class and is combined with a turbocharged 1.6 liter to 2 liter inline 4 engine. The basic grade model produces 120 BHP / 20.4 kgfm and the upper grade model produces much more power at 207 BHP / 35.7 kgfm. The suspension in all grade models was stiffened to make the car more suitable for sports driving.

A year later from its debut at the Geneva show, a model that exemplifies the sportiness of the 3rd generation A-Class was unveiled. This was the A 45 AMG. The engine for this car was the 2 liter turbo of the upper grade model, tuned by AMG. Without even changing its displacement it produces an amazing 355 BHP / 45.9 kgfm. Its 0-100 km/h acceleration is 4.6 seconds, with a top speed of 249 km/h (where the speed limiter cuts in). The performance level of this car is clearly beyond its class.

Of course the suspension and brakes are further reinforced but the special point of note is the updates made to the drive system. The car utilizes the newest version of the '4Matic' Mercedes 4WD system. Designed together with the 7-speed dual clutch transmission and positioned at the rear axle, this mechanism can linearly adjust the driving force on this front-wheel drive based system to a maximum of 50:50 front-to-rear.

Nothing has been overlooked on this ultimate hot hatch.

Café Conversations (GT7)[]

Ed Welburn[]

One really cool thing about the design of this car... Is how it does not rely on gimmicks, but is rather a pure expression of functional beauty. The surfaces are well-sculpted into tasteful shapes. And the body is muscular, with great proportions. Though the wheels are the largest of their kind, the car seems to almost hug the ground. Indeed, the Mercedes A45 AMG has been carefully designed to[1] express a tough and cool attitude. I want one in my garage!

Trivia[]

  • A press release from Mercedes-Benz implied that both this and the E63 AMG would debut in Gran Turismo 6; however, neither car appeared in the final release, although the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 '11, which is also mentioned on the press release, did appear.[2]
  • Curiously, GT Sport's car list on the Gran Turismo website lists the car in Gr.X.
