In-game description[]
"A large personal coupe bringing elegance to high-speed driving."
In 1999, Mercedes-Benz introduced the CL600, which was essentially a 2-door version of the S-Class sedan. This third generation chassis utilized the W215 chassis, based on the S-Class, albeit it rode on a shorter wheelbase of 113.5 inches. It possessed some of the visual cues of its sedan brother, but its overall appearance was sportier and smoother, suggesting a performance-oriented grand tourer.
Under the long hood of the CL were two engines, a 5.0-liter V-8 that produced 302 HP and 339.2 ft-lb and a 5.8-liter SOHC V-12 that was rated at 362 HP and 391.2 ft-lb of torque. The car with the more powerful version was tapped as the CL600. They came mated a 5-speed automatic transmission. Later in its lifecycle, the top-of-the-line engine became a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-12 that produced a massive 493 HP and 590.2 ft-lb of torque. In 2004, Mercedes-Benz added a modified version of the 7-speed 7G-TRONIC gearbox that improved shift speed and quality.
The car came laden with technology that included ABC (Active Body Control), a fully active suspension system that all but diminished body roll which made the car more comfortable and controllable. Despite the large size of the car--it measured 196.6 inches in overall length--the CL was surprisingly agile, with excellent balance through medium speed corners. The car's ride quality was as smooth as they came, and it proved to be a formidable foe for cars such as the Jaguar XK8 and Bentley Continental GT.
