The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is a grand touring sports car produced by Mercedes-Benz since 1954. The SL refers to the German term Sport-Leicht, meaning Sport Light in English. The SL-Class originated in 1952 with the original 300 SL, a race car that won numerous races, most notably the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Two years later, the production version of the 300 SL was released at the behest of American importer Max Hoffman. The SL-Class is currently in its seventh generation.
The SL-Class first appeared in Gran Turismo Concept, and has appeared in every Gran Turismo game since, with the exception of Gran Turismo HD Concept.
