In ’93, substantial alterations were made to the GTO. The retractable lights were replaced by projector headlights, and the rear was given a new bumper and combination lamps. The unique Getrag 6-speed manual transmission combined with 276 hp twin turbo 6G72 engine, and the torque tweaked up to 314.6 lb ft. In 1994, minor changes produced a new model, called the MR. This twin turbo model was 66 lb lighter and equipped with tuned suspension and BBS wheels. AP 6-pot calipers are optional. Modifications in 1995 added an SR model to the NA range. It gives a powerful drive, although it shows its quality more on the straight than round the corners, where its weight introduces an element of stiffness. The sporty MR offers a smoother drive than the twin-turbo. It would be virtually unbeatable on winding circuits with gentle high-speed corners.
