The Mitsubishi LEGNUM VR-4 Type V '98 is a road car produced by Mitsubishi. It appears in Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo PSP, Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6.

The Mitsubishi Galant won the 1996 car of the year, and the Legnum, was an estate version of the Galant that was added to the lineup.
The Legnum was introduced to break the supreme reign of the Subaru Legacy that was dominating the estate market in Japan at the time. Though it obviously shares many components with the Galant, it was given various differences as a premium estate.
For example, the body was not just a Galant with a modified rear. It was made 1.1 inches taller to secure interior room and luggage space befitting an estate. The mainstream engine lineup was a 2.5L, and it emphasised its differences from the Galant, in which the main lineup was a 2L.
The pricing was well pitched, and strategic - introducing the top model VR-4, 2.5L V6 turbo, that produced a maximum power of 276 BHP and maximum torque of 37.0 kgfm at a price range that was not much different from the 2L Legacy turbo.
This top model VR-4 was given the AYC that was popularised by the Lancer Evo, ahead of the Lancer Evo. It was also given other advanced technologies like the ASC (Active Stability Control), giving it high driving performance far surpassing those of its rivals. It was given a 5 speed AT early on, giving it that extra edge in driving performance, and it continued to evolve until August 2002. Other than the VR-4, a GDI model with the same direct injection engine as the Galant was also introduced. This was an inline 4 cylinder model that emphasised economy, and featured a 1.8L, 2.0L, and 2.4 L later, but this ultimately grew into the main version of the Legnum series.
