Description[]
- "There are two ways of sorting Lancer Evolution generations: by number or by base model. According to the base model system, the Lancer Evolution VII, VIII, and IX all belong to the third generation. Of these, the Lancer Evolution IX MR was the last model. It was also the last Lancer Evolution to be equipped with Mitsubishi's 4G63 4-cylinder turbo engine. With a strong turbocharger and continuous variable valve timing, it offered better engine response than ever before. And its sporty look helped distinguish it as the definitive IX version. The "MR" in its name sands for "Mitsubishi Racing," an exclusive label reserved for Mitsubishi's top tier sports cars."

- "You might say that the Evo IX MR represented a new milestone for the Lancer Evolution series. After all, it was the last of its kind to come equipped with the Mitsubishi 4G63 4-cylinder turbo engine. Although the 4G63 would prove to be no match for its successor, the 4B11, in terms of power and torque, it offered more power and better engine response in the lower rev range. A gem of an engine, it's sure to stand the test of time!"

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR GSR was the updated version of the Lancer Evolution IX GSR that appeared a year prior. Although the two cars look nearly identical, numerous refinements were made to the 2006 model. Although the car's engine specs remained largely unchanged, the MIVEC variable valve timing system was retuned, the standard specification turbine wheel was changed to a titanium-aluminum alloy, and the compressor inlet diameter was downsized. Along with other minor improvements, this resulted in sharper engine response and faster acceleration.
The suspension system was also enhanced, with high spring rate Eibach coils combined with Bilstein dampers. The electronically controlled Super AYC 4WD system was reprogrammed to focus on cornering ability. There were also refinements to the aerodynamics with the shape of the front bumper being changed to reduce lift.
The "MR"[1] of its name stood for Mitsubishi Racing. Throughout the company's history, this designation was given to its highest performing models. For the Lancer Evolution, the MR name first appeared in the VII lineup, making this IX the second MR model in the car's history. This model represented the culmination of development on the third-generation Lancer Evolution, and it was the last to be equipped with the legendary 4G63 engine.

Trivia[]
- The car features a front bumper (Type B) and grille (Type C) upgrade inspired by the C-West body kit in GT Auto.
- Additionally, if a wide body is equipped, the Type A option will convert to a Varis-inspired one.
- Given the front fender's duct, it is likely that the widebody available in the game is inspired by Do-Luck's.
- If the player drives this car on dirt tracks or Lake Louise, its driving modes do not change from tarmac to gravel or snow, as its indicator remains as tarmac.
