In-game description[]
"The final evolution of the Lancer Evo VIII with updated suspension and low center of gravity."
As far as rally-inspired performance sedans go, Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution VII, introduced in 2001, was in a class of its own, one-upping its main rival, the Subaru WRX STI. The new Evo featured cutting-edge all-wheel-drive technologies that included the ACD (Active Center Differential) and the AYC yaw-control system. In 2002, Mitsubishi offered an INVECS-II electronically controlled automatic transmission with manual shift mode, mating it with a detuned 268.2 HP version of the 4G63 engine.
In 2003, Mitsubishi introduced the Lancer Evolution VIII whose engine produced 289.3 ft-lb more torque than its predecessor, along with enhancements to the drivetrain and handling components. This set the stage for the Lancer Evolution VIII MR, which made its debut in 2004. As the final Evo VIII model, the MR came with various refinements across the board, including the addition of an aluminum roof panel and the implementation of Bilstein dampers for the very, first time.
Brand Central (GT7)[]
Mitsubishi cars adorned with the "MR" badge (Mitsubishi Racing) placed a high priority on high performance. The first Lancer Evolution to include an MR car to its model lineup was the Evo VIII MR. The Lan Evo VIII MR boasted world-class performance, bred from the company's winning rally car. With its sporty-tuned suspension, improved aerodynamics, more responsive engine, and lightweight aluminum roof, the car was truly a world-class sports car, albeit with four doors. To this day, not many sports cars can outperform the Lan Evo VIII MR on the race track.
Used Car Dealership (GT7)[]
This car was the first Lancer Evolution to receive Mitsubishi's high performance MR badge. Thanks to its 4G63 turbocharged inline-4, this rally inspired accelerated like a sports car. The handling of the Lan-Evo VIII was dramatically enhanced from the previous model, thanks to its Super AYC torque control system. Over any driving surface, the sedan was fast and easy to control. The MR version did away with many luxury comforts, instead placing a high priority on speed. Not only did it boast a sportier suspension and lightweight aluminum roof, the engine had more punch in the low-to-mid range. With the company excellent all-wheel-drive system and Super AYC, the Lan Evo VIII was indeed a rally car for the street.

Trivia[]
- In the Mitsubishi dealership's photos in Gran Turismo 4, the Lancer Evolution VIII MR GSR uses the optional 7-split spoke BBS rims, as present in the 2003 concept model in Gran Turismo 4 Prologue. However, in-game, the car uses the 6 spoke Enkei rims from the GSR trim level.
- This was also persistent in later games until Gran Turismo 7, where the Evolution VIII MR GSR now uses the optional 7-split spoke BBS rims, also used by its successor in addition to the pre-production model that appeared in GT4P.
- In GT7, its intercooler can be fitted with decals from the Livery Editor, making it the first car to do so.
