In-game description[]

"The optional body stripes stand out on this T.M. Edition."

In commemoration for Tommi Makinen's achievement of driver's champion 4 years running from 1996 to 1999, The Lancer Evolution T.M. EDITION was sold in a limited run of 2500 cars. The model code was GFCP9A, and is sometimes nicknamed the Lancer Evo 6.5.

Compared to the Evo V, the Evo VI introduced in the beginning of the same year had a softer ride, due to the unpopularity of the previous suspension that was considered too hard for driving in the city. In addition the front bumper shape had been revised for aerodynamic and cooling performance. The T.M. EDITION on the other hand was created in the image of a tarmac rally setup, and was equipped with a front bumper that omits fog lights for even better aerodynamics, and the harder suspension from the EVO V further lowered by another 0.3 inches. The steering gear ratio is also slightly quicker in this model.

By utilizing a titanium-aluminum alloy turbine and smaller compressors, its maximum torque of 274.8 ft-lb is produced earlier at 2750rpm, rather than the usual 3000rpm. It is also given red Recaro seats with a stitched TOMMI MAKINEN logo, special red meters, the same Enkei spoke wheels as the rally car, and a large exhaust muffler with a circular exit, rather than the original elliptical one.

The promotional image color of the body was red, and it was possible to select a special color package which had a black stripe running from the front fenders to the body sides.

This Evo was popular as a model that was further perfected, worthy to be crowned with the name of the undefeated WRC champion.

Used Cars (GT7)[]

The Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Mäkinen Edition is the crown jewel of the Lancer line. It is named for Tommi Mäkinen, a legendary driver who won four WRC championships behind the wheel of a Lancer Evo. With this special edition car, Mitsubishi pays homage to his accomplishments. Based on the Lancer Evolution VI, this variant features a stiffer suspension. Of all the models in the series, it and the Evo V are deemed the 'most thrilling tarmac specialists'.

Trivia[]

  • Compared to the regular GSR T.M. Edition, the Special Color Package features amber front turn signal lenses, body-colored side window sashes, black door handles, taillight garnishes, and a white upper rear wing, as well as the special decals and stripes.
    • In the GT Auto in GT7, the car's taillight garnish can be removed (Rear Type A), and the front bumper can be replaced with one from the standard Evolution VI GSR (Front Type B).
    • Removing the taillight garnish formerly affected the car's downforce. This was fixed in version 1.19.
  • Despite being the same car, the car has different internal names between games:
    • lancer_evo6_tommi_gsr_opt_00 in GT3
    • lancer_evo6_tommi_gsr_scp_00 in GT5 and GT6.
      • In addition, both internal names seem to imply that the model in-game is a 2000 model year car; however, GT3 does not explicitly show model years (and the _00 suffix cannot be used to specify a model year in this game), and the car is depicted as being from 1999 in both GT5 and GT6, as well in GT7.
  • The car is referred to as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI GSR Tommi Makinen Edition (Stripe) in GT3.
  • In the PS3-era games, repainting the car will not remove the car's side stripes or the Mitsubishi logo on the side of the wings. However, in GT7, creating a new livery will remove said decals, as well as the Lancer Evolution badge logo on the rear.
