In-game description[]

This description is taken from the NTSC version of Gran Turismo 2:

The sixth-generation Mirage models appeared in October 1995. The last minor change to the line was in August 1997. Designed to be the next generation in compact, smart, baseline cars, the Mirage offers a truly rich array of variations that include 3 body types - 4-door sedans, 3-door hatchback, and the 2-door Asti coupe - and even the "neoclassic" Modarc. The Mirage Asti 2-door coupe is offered with 3 engine options: 1.3-liter SOHC, 1.5-liter DOHC, and 1.6-liter DOHC. The Asti ZR, the sportiest model grade, houses a 1.6-liter DOHC in-line 4-cylinder MIVEC engine. The RX-R, which joined the lineup in 1998, received the same engine model but with fine tunings that altered engine speed at maximum output. Both the ZR and RX-R have a front engine/front drive layout. The ZR is offered with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The RX-R is available only with a 5-speed manual transmission. The ZR's automatic transmission features the INVECS-II computer system, which automatically keeps the car in the optimum gear by monitoring driving conditions, as well as a sports mode that lets the driver take control of shifting decisions. The RX-R's exterior is updated with newly designed multi-parabola headlamps and taillights, among other changes.
