The Civic Type R already offers a spectacular driving experience. What does it become when it gets a good tuning? Mugen took on the challenge. Stating the conclusion first, the Mugen Civic R[1] is truly a car that has attained "the perfect driving experience." The B16B model unit on board is equipped with an air-cleaner box, a 4-1 exhaust manifold, and a sports exhaust system, which sends the sharpness of the uptake through the roof. The feel of the mid-speed range and the physically tangible power have also received a good boost. The sound is sweet music to the heart at high revs, and the handling does not suffer from this tuning either. The low down suspension has its deterioration increased appropriately, powerfully hugging the ground. It has plenty of stability to keep up even on poor road surfaces. The brakes with modified pads have quick initial control response, and the vehicle controls well. This provides the assurance needed to maintain high speeds. The handling is also thoroughly stabilised. This cuts down on some of the positioning freedom, but its correcting speed spectacularly makes up for it. And the Mugen LSD provides plenty of traction, so even when coming from understeering and having to cut the wheel, opening the throttle will exert a powerful pull on the nose and turn the car beautifully. The drive is definitely worthy of being called a "winding special". If you catch sight of this car in your rear view mirror, robed in aero-parts that practically scream speed, it would be prudent to let it have the road. Don't mess with high potential.
