In-game description[]

Older games/GT7 Car Index[]

"Enlarging displacement while shortening the wheelbase; the 6th generation Z focuses on driving."

When the sixth-generation Fairlady Z, the Z34 was introduced in December 2008, most people assumed that the car would be just a mildly updated version of the Z33 that revived the Z car in January 2002. The 370Z, as we knew it, appeared relatively the same; however, upon closer inspection, it became evident that this was an all-new car.

Built atop the E platform that also serves as the foundation of the Infiniti "Skyline" G37, the new Z featured an aluminum hood, door and rear hatch that kept the car's curb weight about the same as the previous vehicle (around 1500 kg). The new Z was nimble, thanks to a shorter 3.9 inches wheelbase and retuned suspension system that consisted of a double-wishbone setup in front and multilink at rear.

Under the hood was a more powerful engine, the VQ37VHR with VVEL. VVEL was a mechanism that varies the operating angle and lift of the valves for improved power and lower emissions. With 200 cc more displacement, the new V-6 pumped out 331 HP/7000 rpm and 269.0 ft-lb of torque that peaked at 5200. The engine came mated to either a quick-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission, or a revolutionary 6-speed manual gearbox equipped with the world's first SynchroRev[1] control mechanism. This system automatically adjusted engine rpm when downshifting, eliminating the need to heel and toe.

Thus the Z34 became a true enthusiast sports car that even novices could drive effectively.

Brand Central (GT7)[]

This sixth generation 2008 Fairlady Z is also known as the Z34. Its newly designed 3.7L V7 naturally aspirated engine... Provides a maximum output of 331.4 BHP, far more than its predecessor, the Z33... And its six-speed manual transmission employs technology that had not been seen before the time of its release. This technology is capable of auto-adjusting the engine's rotation every time the driver shifts gears... Allowing for velvety smooth downshifts without the need to heel-and-toe!

Used Cars (GT7)[]

The 370Z—or 'Fairlady Z Z34', as it's known in Japan—has a shorter wheelbase and length than the 350Z. Not only does this give it a sleeker, more nimble profile, it allows it to corner much more sharply as well. But you can rest assured that its stability has not been compromised in the slightest. Also, it's 3.7L naturally-aspirated V6 is no slouch, and is capable of producing over 325.4 BHP. If this is your first RWD car, then you're in safe and speedy hands!

Café (GT7)[]

Shiro Nakamura[]

Design-wise, the Z34 sports a more classic look than the Z33. First of all, its wheelbase has been shortened by 100 mm... Giving it long-nose proportions. And the shape of its roof, with the window decal at the very front... Is consciously taken from the S30. In contrast, the massive rear fender, which squeezes the shape of the body from front to rear... Lends to it an aggressiveness never before seen in a Z-car. Of course, it wasn't easy evolving the Z33's styling. But in short, if the Z33 evolved modern elegance... The Z34 was more of an authentic FR sports car with added aggressiveness.

Trivia[]

  • In the Gran Turismo 5 Time Trial Challenge (used for a 2009 GT Academy event) and the GT Academy 2013 (a publicly released demo of GT6 mainly intended for GT Academy competitors) builds, as well as the 2014 GT Academy competition (ran in GT6),[4] a version of the car rebadged as the Nissan 370Z '08 was used, although not used in the main games (other than the GT Academy 2012 variant). However, a special tuned version explicitly named as the 370Z can be found as a rare prize car in GT5.
    • Additionally, only the GT Academy 2012 variant (in GT5) can be driven outside of the GT Academy event.
  • Although the car is a 2008 model year, GT7's Brand Central description text referred it as a 2009 model. This might be relating to how North American models are usually one year ahead of the calendar year.
  • A Formula Drift version driven by Chris Forsberg was scanned by Polyphony Digital in 2016, resulting in speculations that the car could appear in the series. It is yet to appear in the series as of GT7.[5]
