The Nissan R390 GT1 Road Car '97 is a supercar built by Nissan. It only appears in Gran Turismo 2.

In-game description[]

This description is taken from the PAL version of Gran Turismo 2:

The car was first seen racing in the GT1 class in the 1997 Le Mans, and then the following year, in the form of this model R390 GT1, it was entered again as the Nissan challenge to Le Mans. This R390 GT1 was designed by Tony Southgate of the British specialist manufacturer TWR. The construction of the body is a carbon monocoque, with a VRH35L 3.5L V8 twin turbo mounted longitudinally midships, mated to a transverse 6-speed sequential gear box. The 1997 model R390 GT1 produced a maximum power of at least 650 ps and maximum torque in excess of 72 kgm. The suspension employed was double wishbone type both front and rear. The brakes at both front and rear were AP-made 6-pod with ABS. The 1998 model R390 GT1 was based on the 1997 model, but with further advances; changes featured in both exterior and interior. In particular, an important characteristic was the achievements made in styling changes to improve the aerodynamic characteristics. The greatest area of improvement was the addition of a long tail form and omission of the divided rear wing. Due to the improvements in the rear shape, there was a great improvement to the R390 GT1 aerodynamic characteristics of both the air resistance factor and downforce. The result of this was that in 1998 a Japanese team featuring Kazuyoshi Hoshino managed to get a podium place at Le Mans.

Trivia[]

  • Although Nissan claimed figures of "over 350 PS at 5,200rpm" and "over 490 N⋅m of torque at 4,000 rpm" for the road car, in reality it generated 558 PS at 6,800 rpm and 470 lb⋅ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. These actual figures are not represented in-game however.
