This description is taken from the NTSC version of Gran Turismo 2:

The S15 Silvia's chassis performance is vastly improved over previous models. The best-selling version is now the turbo-charged Spec-R, showing just how strong driver preference for sports model is. The Spec-R SR20DET engine generates a maximum power of 247 BHP, almost 30 BHP higher than the S14. But, more importantly, the Spec-R does this without sacrificing mid-range torque characteristics. For a turbo-engined car, the SR20DET provides excellent throttle control response at partial throttle, letting the driver take the Spec-R's front engine/rear drive performance to its limits. Cornering control is also superb. While a high-rpm unit may show faster acceleration and top speed, a car like the Spec-R is actually faster in the most-commonly used speed range. At 2,750 lbs, curb weight is light for a modern car of this size. The 6-speed manual transmission's gear shifting is just right: fast and easy, with the perfect balance between sportiness and daily driveability. Since the S14, weight distribution has been changed, while handling has been improved considerably by such upgrades as a Torsen limited-slip differential. The Super HICAS steering system, available only with the manual-transmission Spec-R, is another step in the car's natural evolution from the S14, ensuring both high-speed stability and satisfing maneuverability. Only the tires are unchanged from the S14. Different tires, an easy modification, should improve performance significantly. Nevertheless, the S15 Silvia's chassis is appropriate for a front engine/rear drive production sports car, and is well-matched to the engine. This model change can be considered a huge success, for it abandoned the line's vague, specialty car status in favor of an all-out sports model approach.
