The car appears to be the #24, driven by João Paulo de Oliveira and Seiji Ara, who achieved a 14th place finish in the GT500 Driver's Championship and an 11th place finish in the GT500 Team's Championship in the 2008 Super GT season.
"The new machine for 2008 that brought a second Sepang victory to the team."
Kondo Racing achieved its first much sought after victory in round 4 of Sepang in 2007, and they started the new season again with the winning pair of drivers, Seiji Ara and Joao Paulo de Oliveira.
Their car was changed from the Fairlady Z to the GT-R, and at its heart was the same VK45DE, DOHC 32 valve V8 that had powered the 2007 Z, that had been continually improving upon.
However Nissan teams had decided to introduce the new vehicle regulations for 2009 early. They were allowed to apply these rules in advance to their 2008 machines, so the new GT-R was a specially approved vehicle that was developed along those new regulations.
The major point of note about the GT-R that came out of this development. was the height of its body.
Though the 2008 regulations forbade exceeding the height of the monocoque of the base car, the new regulations allowed the total height to be cut down to 43.3 inches, so as long as the roof and A pillars were kept. The width and wheel base were also changed to match the regulations, and in comparison to the Z, the GT-R was enlarged from 76.3 inches to 78.7 inches in width, and the wheel base was extended from 104.3 inches to 107 inches, making its appearance like that of a wide, giant anaconda slithering on the ground.
The shock absorption structure that was a part of the radiator box was changed to small cones, reducing the weight of the overhang. Various parts of the car were improved to make it the ultimate fighting machine.
Though struggling with the "special performance adjustments" that were reintroduced in the season, Kondo Racing achieved another win at Round 4 in Sepang. In this year of 2008, they proved their level of excellence as a racing team.
