In-Game Description[]
The 4WD midship monster that took Group B by storm.
The 205 Turbo 16 is a Group B car developed by Peugeot for the World Rally Championship. Though similar to the production 205 in both looks and name, the car is an entirely different beast on the inside.
Built on a pipe frame chassis, in the space where the rear seats would normally go sits 1.8L inline-4 DOHC turbo engine producing over 345.2 BHP. The drivetrain is of couse a full-time four-wheel drive configuration and features double wishbone suspension on all four wheels. In order to improve ease-of-maintenance for the engine and rear suspension the rear half of the body shell from the B pillar back is a single fibreglass piece that can be lifted up and out of the way.
Debuting at the 1984 Tour de Corse, the 205 Turbo 16 soon gained 3 victories with another 3 following in '85. However, Peugeot were not satisfied with these results and produced an extra limited run of 20 specially modified cars. Featuring a lighter frame, an improved engine, and a large rear-wing, the 205 Turbo Evolution 2 became known as one of the monsters of Group B.
With these improvement in place, few could stand up to the Peugeot teams. In Group B, they won 7 out of the 12 events in 1985 and 6 out of 13 in 1986, earning them both the manufacturers' and drivers' championship titles 2 years running.
However, the FIA decided to discontinue the Group B category at the end of 1986. The Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 was remembered as one of the most iconic cars of the era.
Legend Cars (GT7)[]
The Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 is sometimes referred to as the 'ultimate rally car'. It was originally designed to compete in the World Rally Championship's legendary Group B category. Group B regulations were officially implemented in 1983. At the time, the number of base models an automaker needed to produce to meet Group B homologation was very small. No commitment to mass production of road versions meant that manufacturers could make bold decisions on development. And the choice made by Peugeot was to mount a powerful turbocharged engine midship, and combine it with 4WD. At that point, the other teams in Group B hadn't yet adopted this trend, which initially gave Peugeot an advantage. This Peugeot Turbo 16 made its debut in the middle of the 1984 season. It immediately proved itself to be effective, winning World Rally Championship titles in 1985 and 1986.
