"This Vision Gran Turismo pays homage to the legendary L45 race machine."
―In-game catch text for the car, from GT7's car collection

The Peugeot L500R HYbrid Vision Gran Turismo, 2017 is a concept car made by Peugeot for the Vision Gran Turismo project. It appears in Gran Turismo Sport and in Gran Turismo 7.

Description[]

"Are you familiar with the legendary Peugeot L45? If not, here's a crash course. It's one of the company's most famous race cars, known for winning the Indy 500 in 1916. It also served as this inspiration for this Peugeot L500R HYbrid Vision Gran Turismo. The styling of the rear, with its gently narrowing rear end, was taken directly from the L45. The drivetrain is a hybrid setup, consisting of a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder and two electric motors."
―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Brand Central

On May 30, 1916, Peugeot won the legendary 'Indy 500 Mile Race' with their comet-like L45 race car. A century from this victory, the Peugeot L500R HYbrid Vision Gran Turismo pays tribute to this champion of the past. The performance and passion of a Peugeot race car from the beginning of the 20th century is brought forward to the present with sculpted elegance and the latest in technology.

The outstanding feature of its styling is its incredibly low profile. Even the bulge for the cabin containing the driver is kept to a minimum, with a total height of only 1 m. The gradually narrowing tail is common with the century old L45, and ends in a streamlined rear feature highlighting the three distinctive rear lamp claws similar to that of the 3008, a part of Peugeot’s design identity today.

The cockpit around the driver utilises a near future user interface, with two holograms displaying a variety of information for the driver. And though the L500R is a single seater, the navigator that was necessary in the L45 is now replaced with a virtual navigator in this concept.

The powertrain features a 1.6 litre 4 cylinder turbocharged engine and two electric motors. The total output is 493 BHP, yielding a peak torque of 730 kgfm. Utilising the latest materials the car only weighs 1,000 kg, enabling an acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, covering 1,000 m in just 19 seconds.

In the world of motorsports, Peugeot has continued to perform not only in the Indy 500 but in many races all over the world, including races like the Le Mans, WRC and Rally Raids. This innovative machine connects their spirit and passion to the future.

Trivia[]

  • Prior to its inclusion in Gran Turismo Sport, the car was previously unveiled as a design concept on May 27, 2016, with no mention of the Vision Gran Turismo program.[1]
  • In GT Sport, as the car is being treated as a road car, it can enter some GT League events, most notably being an AI opponent in 4WD Challenge.
  • It features #17 by default; however, if the car's default livery is removed when prompted in the Livery Editor, it cannot be restored as there is no Normal option in the Numbers section under the Racing Item.
