Menu Book 31: Porsche[]
Germany's Porsche is a world-renowned manufacturer of sports cars, and the 911 is one of the company's most popular models. Since its debut in 1963, the Porsche 911 has developed a reputation as something of a masterpiece. It has a compact body, a powerful engine, and a rear-wheel drive layout. The engine is also mounted right at the back of the car, making an RR; rear engine, rear-wheel drive. This basic setup has remained in place for over half a century. The Porsche company was established by the genius engineer Ferdinand Porsche. Before the founding of Porsche, Ferdinand had worked on many racing cars and aircraft engines as a young man. The first Porsche went on sale in 1949. It was a sports car known as the Porsche 356. With its compact body and rear-mounted engine, it was immediately entered into various races. In many ways, the Porsche 911 is an evolved version of the original 356 - an evolution which continues to this day!
Extra Book 17: Porsche 911 Carrera RS[]
The Porsche 911 has been a major player on the world stage, and its unique RS model is no exception. The "RS" stands for "Race Sport." And all 911 Carrera RS's were designed exclusively to win races. Compared to standard 911s, the RS is distinguished by its lightweight, responsive chassis and finely-tuned engine. The original model was this 911 Carrera RS, which was first released in 1972. Based on the first-generation Porsche 911, it was designed to meet FIA's homologation requirements. Stripped of all convenience features, it came powered by an engine that was increased by 300 cc from the base model's. In terms of horsepower and top-speed, it represented the peak of the 911 series of the 911 series for its time. The RS was first 911 production car to sport a rear spoiler, and sat on wide tires for improved traction. As Porsche had hoped, subsequent RS variants played a significant role at international motorsports events. The advent of the road-legal RS was truly a historical event in the history of Porsche. Its legacy was carried on such models as this 964 Carrera RS in 1992 and the 993 Carrera RS in 1995. Each model resembles its forebearer in its dedication to being lightweight, powerful, and incredibly responsive. After more than half a century, the lasting impact of the original RS remains unchanged. Which is why this collection is bound to be the envy of sports-car enthusiasts everywhere.

Trivia[]
- In the demo versions of Gran Turismo 2, two racing 911s participating in the JGTC, as entered by Team Taisan, were listed in the car name database, namely an STP TAISAN PORSCHE GT2'97 (with internal name gtp7r) and a TAISAN PORSCHE RSR '99 (with internal name gtp9r); however, both were cut during development.[1]
- In addition, four of RUF's 964-based models (the BR2, BR4, BTR4, and CR4) were also planned for inclusion there, but they were then cut, although these cars still have complete car bodies and garage/dealer logos.[2]
- An opponent (driven by Jose Serrano) in GT7's All Japan GT Car Championship Special Event drives a 993 Carrera RS in an Advan livery, in reference to said STP Taisan 911s.
