In-game description[]
- "If you're a fan of sports cars, you'll love the 964 series Porsche 911 Carrera RS. The 964 series was successful in the 'Carrera Cup', helping to fuel a huge surge of consumer interest in race cars. This Carrera RS is therefore a road-legal version of an iconic racing champion. The designers went to great lengths to get the most out of the engine while keeping the car as light as possible. It might not look all that powerful, but no other car out there can compete when it comes to handling."
- ―In-game description of the car, from GT7's Used Car Dealership
In 1989, Porsche introduced the Type 964, the third-generation version of the popular 911. While the car featured approximately 80 percent new parts, it nevertheless stayed true to the elements that defined all 911s before it. What was different about this one was that the first model offered, Carrera 4, came equipped with a new 4WD system originally developed for the vaunted 959. The lighter 2WD version of the 964, called the Carrera 2, came a year later in 1990.
All Type 964 911s came powered with an air-cooled flat-6, mounted aft of the rear wheels, with 3.6 liters of displacement. The Type 964 produced 246.5 HP/228.5 ft-lb.
The Carrera RS was a performance model based on the Carrera 2, with a more rigid body structure and less weight (lighter by 265 pounds (120 kg)). Power was upped to 256.4 HP, making this model a monster on the race track. A turbocharged 911 would appear later, with the top-of-the-line Turbo S delivering a whopping 375.7 HP.

The only notable difference from the standard 964 Carrera is the 40 mm lower ride height. In fact, if you didn't spot that, the chances are you'd think it was a standard 964. But that's something the fans of the 961 911 Carrera RS go crazy for. Its Spartan to say the least, with no frills or comfort features at all. As a result, it's 120 kg lighter and its handling is sharp as a razor. There's no doubt that its value will go up and up. Yes, this is one of the best of the best.

The 964 RS is one of my favourite models. Why? Because it retains the original Ur-911 shape and air-cooled flat-six! I like how visually pure it is, and how it doesn't have any add-ons, like a fixed rear wing. Also, it was Porsche's first 'Cup Car'. A true successor to the '73 RS and the '74 RS 3.0, if you ask me. You can immediately tell it apart from a normal 964 by looking at its shape and wheels. The 17-inch Cup 1 wheels on the 964 were made from aluminium. On the 964 RS, they are visually the same but wider and made from a lighter magnesium material. Today, they fall into the 'unobtanium' category of material! This car was made available in standard colours like Rubystone Red, Signal Green and Maritime Blue. The spartan interiors were a standard black... And the central trim sported bucket Recaro seats in a two-tone leather colour. There was a 'M001' Carrera Cup Version, a 'M002' RS Touring Version and a 'M003' N/GT1 Carrera RS. It is a must-have for the 911 air-cooled purist!
